Fuel Fill Pipe: Installation

IMPORTANT:  To ease installation, lightly wipe outside of fuel tank inlet connector with plain water.

  1. Position filler pipe into wheel opening with top of pipe within body panel opening.
  2. Install fuel filler pipe onto fuel tank inlet.

  3. Install fuel filler pipe intermediate bracket bolt. Do not tighten at this time.

  4. Lower vehicle and install filler pipe to upper fuel fill pipe support bracket by moving the fuel filler neck up and to the right (toward the front of the vehicle).

    Torque: 

    Fuel Fill Pipe Bracket-to-Body Bolt (Upper): 2.5 N.m (22 in-lbs)

  5. Install fuel cap.
  6. Raise vehicle to comfortable working height.
    NOTE: Ensure that the fuel pipe connecting hose is installed until it touches the fuel tank body. The hose clamp should be located within 6mm (1/4 in.) of the end of the connecting hose.
  7. Tighten hose clamp on filler pipe-to-fuel tank connecting hose.

    Torque: 

    Fuel Fill Neck-to-Fuel Tank Clamp: 5 N.m (44 in-lbs) 

  8. Connect fuel fill pipe vent and fresh air hoses.
  9. Tighten intermediate bracket bolt.

    Torque: 

    Fuel Fill Pipe Bracket-to-Body Bolt (Intermediate): 10 N.m (89 in-lbs)

  10. Install inner wheelhouse liner.

  11. Install wheel and tire.

    Torque: 

    Wheel Nuts: 125 N.m (92 ft-lbs) 

  12. Connect negative battery cable.

    Torque: 

    Battery Terminal Bolt: 17 N.m (13 ft-lbs) 

  13. Lower vehicle from hoist.
  14. Perform the "Service Bay Diagnostic Test" for the EVAP emission system using the Scan tool. This test will verify the integrity of the vapor handling areas of the fuel system.
