Park Lock Cable Operation Check
- Set parking brake.
- With ignition key removed from ignition lock cylinder and control shift lever in the Park position, depress control shift lever button and attempt to move control shift lever out of Park position.
- If gearshift lever can be shifted out of the Park position, replace park lock cable. See PARK LOCK CABLE
under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
- If control shift lever cannot be shifted out of the Park position, proceed to next step.
- Insert ignition key into ignition lock cylinder assembly and turn to RUN position.
- Depress brake pedal and depress control shift lever button and move control shift lever out of the Park position. Release brake pedal. With control shift lever out of the Park position, attempt to turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Ensure ignition key is pushed inward toward steering column when it is rotated toward LOCK position.
- If ignition switch can be turned to LOCK position with control shift lever out of the Park position, replace park lock cable. See PARK LOCK CABLE
under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
- If ignition switch cannot be turned to LOCK position with control shift lever out of the Park position, park lock cable assembly is properly adjusted, go to next step.
- Depress control shift lever button. Move control shift lever to the Park position. Turn ignition switch to ON position, and then to OFF position. Ensure ignition key is removable.
- If ignition key can be removed from ignition lock cylinder assembly, go to next step. If ignition key cannot be removed from ignition lock cylinder assembly, replace park lock cable. See PARK LOCK CABLE
under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
- Check system operation. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Remove ignition key from ignition lock cylinder assembly.
