Draining & Refilling
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Saturn LW200 and 2002 Saturn L200. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
WARNING:
Ensure vehicle is properly supported and squarely positioned on the hoist. To help avoid personal injury when a vehicle is on a hoist, provide additional support for the vehicle on the opposite end from which components are being removed.
NOTE:
The transaxle is filled with fluid at the manufacturer and requires no routine oil changes. If it is determined the fluid needs to be changed due to contamination or similar issue, follow this procedure. To ensure all sediment within the transaxle is suspended in the fluid, the fluid should only be drained after it has reached a normal operating temperature of 190-200°F (88-93°C). Normal operating temperature is reached after approximately 15 miles of highway driving.
WARNING:
The transaxle fluid is hot, caution must be taken to prevent personal injury when transaxle fluid drains from the transaxle.
- Raise and support vehicle. Remove transaxle drain plug (1). See Figure . Allow at least 5 minutes for the fluid to drain completely.
- Remove transaxle level plug (2). Clean and apply Thread Sealant (P/N 21485278) to drain plug and install. Tighten transaxle drain plug to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Using a funnel with a flexible spout or a quart-sized bottle and hand pump, fill transaxle with appropriate fluid to proper level. See RECOMMENDED FLUIDS and CHECKING FLUID LEVELS .
- Clean and apply thread sealant to fill plug and install. Tighten fill plug to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
