Shifter Control Assembly: Removal

Disable SIR system. See appropriate AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT. Remove control lever boot assembly. See CONTROL LEVER BOOT .
Remove bolt from cable retaining plate and remove plate. See Fig 1 . Remove shifter control assembly to floor pan attachment nuts. Remove plastic cable guide from shifter using a screwdriver. See Fig 2 .
Disconnect wiring harness clip from shifter control assembly. Lay shifter on its side to provide access to cable ends. Do not pry off cable end with a single screwdriver.
Remove the selector cable from the shifter bell crank. Use 2 flat-blade screwdrivers and a twisting motion to separate the cable end from the bell crank. See Fig 3 . Grasp the cable end with long pliers and rotate rod end as shown. See Fig 4 .
