Fuel Rail & Injectors: Installation

WARNING: Always install NEW fuel injector "O" rings in the proper position.
  1. Lubricate new injector upper "O" ring seal with clean engine oil and install "O" ring seal on fuel injector. Install injector into fuel rail. Install retainer clip on injector. Push fuel injector into fuel rail injector socket with harness connector facing outward. The retainer clip locks on to a flange on fuel rail injector socket.
  2. Ensure "O" rings are replaced on all components that are serviced. Lightly lubricate fuel injector "O" rings with clean engine oil. Place fuel rail assembly on intake manifold. Seat fuel injectors by hand. Install fuel rail hold-down bolts.
  3. Tighten fuel rail hold-down bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Connect all fuel injector harness connectors. Connect fuel supply line to fuel rail tube. Install air tube.
  4. Tighten fuel fill cap. Reconnect negative battery cable. Prime fuel system by performing the following procedure. Cycle ignition on for 5 seconds and off for 10 seconds. Repeat twice. Start engine. If engine does not start, reprime fuel system. After engine is started, turn engine off. Turn ignition off, with engine off. Check for leaks.

  1. Lubricate the new injector upper "O" ring seal with clean engine oil and install "O" ring seal on fuel injector. Install injector into fuel rail. Install retainer clip on injector. Push fuel injector into fuel rail injector socket with harness connector facing outward. The retainer clip locks on to a flange on fuel rail injector socket.
  2. Ensure "O" rings are replaced on all components that are serviced. Lightly lubricate fuel injector "O" rings with clean engine oil. Place fuel rail assembly on intake manifold. Seat fuel injectors by hand. Install fuel rail hold-down bolts.
  3. Tighten fuel rail hold-down bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Connect all fuel injector harness connectors. Reinstall accelerator cable. Connect PCV hose and fuel supply line to fuel rail tube. Install air tube.
  4. Tighten fuel fill cap. Reconnect negative battery cable. Prime fuel system by performing the following procedure. Cycle ignition on for 5 seconds and off for 10 seconds. Repeat twice. Start engine. If engine does not start, reprime fuel system. After engine is started, turn engine off. Turn ignition off, with engine off. Check for leaks.
