Rear Wheel Speed Sensor: Removal
The rear wheel speed sensor is contained within the hub/bearing assembly. The sensor is not serviceable separately. To replace a damaged rear wheel speed sensor, the entire hub/bearing assembly must be replaced.
WARNING:
Make sure vehicle is properly supported and squarely positioned on the hoist. To help avoid personal injury when a vehicle is on a hoist, provide additional support for the vehicle on the opposite end from which components are being removed.
- Raise vehicle on hoist.
- Remove rear wheel and tire assembly corresponding to hub being replaced.
- Disconnect electrical connector from ABS wheel speed sensor.
- Vehicles equipped with rear disc brakes, perform the following:
- Remove brake pipe to control arm support bracket.
- Remove caliper-to-knuckle fasteners.
- Remove caliper, hang from strut spring with mechanic's wire.
- Remove drum/rotor retaining screw.
- Remove drum/rotor.
- Remove hub-to-rear axle control arm attachment nuts. Discard nuts.
- Remove hub/bearing assembly.
