Sir Coil Assembly: Removal

  1. Remove steering wheel. See STEERING WHEEL  . Remove ignition switch bezel. Separate SIR coil assembly harness from rosebud-type fastener below steering column. Disconnect horn/cruise control connector.
  2. Ensure wheels are still in straight-ahead position. To prevent coil assembly from rotating, insert Yellow tab (if available) into coil assembly, or securely tape coil assembly in present position. Remove SIR coil assembly. On 2000 models, remove retaining fasteners. On 2001 models, remove coil assembly by carefully disengaging plastic retaining tabs with small, flat screwdriver. On all models, guide coil assembly wiring harness from below steering column, and remove coil assembly.
