Test E: Speedometer Inaccurate

  1. Connect scan tool to DLC. Raise and support vehicle with drive wheels off the ground. Start engine. Place gear selector in Drive. Using scan tool, access vehicle speed. If scan tool displays vehicle speed, go to next step. If scan tool does not display vehicle speed, repair vehicle speed sensor circuit as necessary. See appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE.
  2. Using scan tool, perform instrument cluster LAMP and GAUGE SWEEP tests. If speedometer sweeps properly, check for intermittent poor connections. If speedometer does not sweep properly, replace instrument cluster.
