Intermediate Shaft: Installation

NOTE: To prevent damage to oil seal during left axle shaft installation, Do not allow left axle shaft splines to contact oil seal.

Using Transaxle Seal Protector (SA91112T), insert intermediate shaft into transaxle. Ensure intermediate shaft splines pass through oil seal, then remove seal protector. Push intermediate shaft securely into transaxle.
On SOHC engine, install bolts securing intermediate axle shaft bracket to engine block.
On DOHC engine, install 2 lower bolts securing intermediate axle shaft bracket to engine block. DO NOT tighten at this time. Install bolts securing intermediate axle shaft bracket-to-intake manifold bracket and tighten to specification. Tighten bolts securing axle shaft bracket-to-engine block.
To complete installation, reverse removal procedure. Tighten nuts and bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Align front wheels. See appropriate SPECIFICATIONS & PROCEDURES article in WHEEL ALIGNMENT.
