Diagnostic Procedures
- Drive vehicle at speeds more than 25 MPH. Depress and release brake pedal 2 times and turn cruise control main switch on. While driving vehicle at speeds more than 25 MPH, cycle through all cruise control functions. See CRUISE CONTROL FUNCTIONAL SWITCHES under OPERATION. If all cruise control functions operate correctly, problem is intermittent. If all cruise control functions do not operate correctly, stop vehicle, turn engine off and go to next step.
- Turn ignition switch to ON position. Check CRUISE 1 (10-amp) fuse and CRUISE 2 (2-amp) fuses in instrument panel fuse block. Instrument panel fuse block is located behind passenger's side left kick panel. If a fuse is blown, replace fuse and recheck cruise control system operation. If fuses are okay, using scan tool, check for cruise control related DTCs stored in PCM. If no DTCs are set, go to next step. If any cruise control related DTCs are stored, diagnose DTCs before continuing test. See DIAGNOSTIC TESTS .
- Using scan tool, display cruise control data. Press cruise control main switch on. If scan tool displays CRUISE SWITCH on, go to next step. If scan tool does not display CRUISE SWITCH on, diagnose using test DTC P0565: CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH CIRCUIT .
- Press RES/ACCEL switch. If scan tool displays CRUISE RESUME/ACCEL on, go to next step. If scan tool does not display CRUISE RESUME/ACCEL on, diagnose using test DTC P0565: CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH CIRCUIT .
- Press SET/COAST switch. If scan tool displays CRUISE SET/COAST on, go to next step. If scan tool does not display CRUISE SET/COAST on, diagnose using test DTC P0565: CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH CIRCUIT .
- Depress and release brake pedal. If scan tool displays BRAKE SWITCH on and off, go to next step. If scan tool does not display BRAKE SWITCH on and off, diagnose using test DTC P0572: CRUISE/BRAKE SWITCH CIRCUIT LOW VOLTAGE. See appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE.
- Disconnect cruise control module connector. Cruise control module is located on steering column support bracket, above accelerator pedal. Start and allow engine to run. Connect test light between ground and cruise control module harness connector terminals No. 5 (Pink wire) and No. 7 (Brown wire) individually. If test light illuminates at both terminals, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate at cruise control module harness connector terminal No. 5, check for open in Pink wire between cruise control module connector terminal No. 5 and instrument panel fuse block Black 68-pin connector terminal D9. If test light does not illuminate at cruise control module harness connector terminal No. 7, check for open in circuit between cruise control module connector terminal No. 7 and instrument panel fuse block Black 68-pin connector terminal D9.
- Turn ignition off. Measure resistance between ground and cruise control module harness connector terminal No. 9 (Black wire). If resistance is less than 2 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 2 ohms or more, check for open or high resistance in circuit between cruise control module connector and ground connector located at shock tower.
- Check for loose or corroded terminals at cruise control module connector. If terminals are okay, replace cruise control module.
