Diagnostic Aids
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2000 Chevrolet Corvette. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
If DTC does not reset after code is cleared, problem may be intermittent. While performing tests, move wires and connectors. Following conditions may also cause an intermittent malfunction:
- Intermittent open, short to ground or short to voltage in White or Purple wire circuits between steering column motor and SCM.
- An intermittent open, short to ground or short to voltage in ground wire circuit (Black wire).
- Position sensor is open or shorted internally.
If SCM is unable to determine correct horizontal position, manual steering column functions will still operate, but SCM will not be able to recall correct column memory settings. Using scan tool, select SCM data display and monitor horizontal position data. Move power telescoping steering column in both directions. Voltage range should vary and stay between 0.10-4.78 volts depending on position of column. This will check if position sensor is shorted in different positions.
