Diagnostic Procedures

  1. Turn ignition on, with engine off. Using scan tool, monitor EVAP VENT - LOW VOLT or EVAP VENT - OPEN test. If scan tool indicates TEST FAIL, go to next step. If scan tool does not indicate TEST FAIL, problem is intermittent. See DIAGNOSTIC AIDS  .
  2. Check CRUISE 1 fuse (10-amp) located in passenger compartment fuse block. If fuse is okay, go to next step. If fuse is faulty, replace fuse and retest system.
  3. Raise vehicle to about chest height. Remove left rear inner fender well. Disconnect EVAP vent solenoid harness connector. Connect a Noid Light (SA9194E) to EVAP vent solenoid harness connector. Using scan tool, monitor EVAP VENT - LOW VOLT or EVAP VENT - OPEN test. If scan tool does not indicate TEST PASS, go to next step. If scan tool indicates TEST PASS, check for terminal tightness. Repair as necessary. If terminal is okay, replace EVAP vent solenoid.
  4. Check noid light. If noid light is not on, go to next step. If noid light is on, check EVAP vent solenoid circuit (White wire) to PCM for short to ground. Repair as necessary. If circuit is okay, replace PCM.
  5. Connect test light between ground and EVAP vent solenoid circuit (Pink wire) to fuse block. If test light is on, check for open in EVAP vent solenoid circuit (White wire) to PCM. Repair as necessary. If test light is not on, repair open in EVAP vent solenoid circuit (Pink wire) to fuse block.
