Actuator Quick Check
- Check level and condition of transaxle fluid. Check PCM memory for any stored DTCs. See SATURN MP6 & MP7 ELECTRONIC CONTROLS article. If no DTCs are present, go to next step. If DTCs are present, diagnose and repair all engine performance-related DTCs first. Clear PCM memory.
- If no DTCs are present, road test vehicle. See ROAD TEST . During road test, record shift points. If shift point timing is incorrect or incorrect shifting occurs, check transaxle electronic control system. See SATURN MP6 & MP7 ELECTRONIC CONTROLS article.
- Using scan tool, ensure all gear selector switch (PRND32) positions are correct. Using scan tool, run actuator SPECIAL TEST.
- With ignition on, engine off, move gear selector to each gear position. This should cause a specific line actuator to operate. See LINE ACTUATOR SELECT table.
- If line actuator is operating, it will audibly operate at a fixed duty cycle for 6 seconds, and then click on and off. Clicking will repeat until next gear is selected or ignition is turned off.
- If shifts are too harsh/soft, check hydraulic pressures. See HYDRAULIC PRESSURE TESTS . For specific complaints, see conditions listed in SYMPTOM DIAGNOSIS under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
