CAUTION: On Camaro and Firebird T5 (M49) 5-speed transmission, DO NOT mistake reverse shift lever pivot bolt (located on left side of transmission case) with filler plug. Drain and fill plugs are located on right side of transmission case. If reverse pivot bolt is loosened, return spring may fall into case, causing a 2nd gear rattle.

Check lubricant level at fill plug hole on side of transmission. Lubricant should be level with bottom of fill plug hole. Add lubricant as necessary. Install fill plug and tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
