Circuit Description

Camshaft Position (CMP) sensor detects a single tooth on camshaft reluctor wheel in order to communicate the camshaft position to ECM. On normal conditions, ECM expects the signal wire voltage to about 5 volts when tooth passes sensor, and near zero volts on any other time. ECM constantly monitors CMP signal and expects to see signal wire switch from low to high voltage once every 720 degrees of crankshaft rotation. DTC will set when voltage appears to shifting irregularly and engine speed is greater than 20 RPM.
