Circuit Description
The Transaxle Output Sensor Speed Sensor (TOSS) is a Permanent Magnet (PM) generator mounted on transmission case. PM generator produces an AC voltage as transmission speed sensor rotor teeth passes through the sensor's magnetic field. AC voltage level increases as vehicle speed increases. PCM converts AC voltage into a digital signal and uses vehicle speed signal to determine shift timing, Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) apply, TCC release, and gear ratio calculations.
DTC will set if TOSS signal is less than 2 MPH for 3 seconds when:
- Transmission is not in Park or Neutral.
- TP greater than 12 percent.
- MAP greater than 50 kPa.
- Transmission Input Speed Sensor (TISS) speed greater than 2000 RPM.
- No MAP, TP, TISS or DTC P1810 have been set.
TOSS signal is continuously checked once the above conditions are met. If TOSS signal is missing, the speedometer will be inoperative.
