Cruise Control Inoperative

NOTE: For wire terminal, color and circuit identification, see WIRING DIAGRAMS  .
  1. Operate horn. If horn operates, go to next step. If horn does not operate, repair open in ground circuit for cruise control switch and horn switch.
  2. Using scan tool, check ON/OFF switch inputs. If scan tool recognizes ON/OFF switch inputs, go to step  6 . If scan tool does not recognize ON/OFF switch inputs, go to next step.
  3. Disable air bag system and remove air bag inflator module. See appropriate AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article. Disconnect cruise control switch harness connector. Using a 5-amp fused jumper wire, jumper between Brown wire and Gray wire at cruise control switch harness connector. Start engine. If DTC P0565 is not present, go to next step. If DTC P0565 is present, replace cruise control switch. See CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  4. Remove steering column cover. Disconnect 4-pin SIR roll connector. Using 5-amp jumper wire, jumper between SIR roll connector (harness side) terminal "D" (Brown wire) and terminal "C" (Gray wire). Ensure engine is running. If DTC P0565 is not present, go to next step. If DTC P0565 is present, replace SIR roll connector.
  5. Using DVOM connected to ground, measure voltage at Brown wire of 4-pin SIR roll connector. If battery voltage is not present, repair open in Brown wire between SIR roll connector and instrument panel junction block. If battery voltage is present, check for open in Gray wire between SIR roll connector and PCM. If Gray wire is okay, replace PCM. See appropriate REMOVAL, OVERHAUL & INSTALLATION article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE.
  6. Using scan tool, check SET/COAST switch inputs. If scan tool recognizes SET/COAST switch inputs, go to next step. If scan tool does not recognize SET/COAST switch inputs, replace cruise control switch. See CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  7. Using scan tool, check RESUME/ACCEL switch inputs. If scan tool recognizes RESUME/ACCEL switch inputs, go to next step. If scan tool does not recognize RESUME/ACCEL switch inputs, replace cruise control switch. See CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  8. Using DVOM, backprobe between cruise control module harness connector terminal No. 7 (Brown wire) and ground. If battery voltage is not present, repair open in Brown wire between cruise control module harness connector terminal No. 7 and brake switch. If battery voltage is present, check for poor connection in Brown wire. If connection is okay, replace cruise control module. See CRUISE CONTROL MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
