Service Engine Soon Indicator

The SERVICE ENGINE SOON indicator comes on as a bulb check when ignition is turned on. The indicator is controlled by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). If indicator remains on while driving, an emissions related problem exists with the engine control system, emission control system or automatic transaxle. Indicator will remain on until ignition is turned off or malfunction is repaired. SERVICE ENGINE SOON indicator may also be referred to as Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL).
