Clutch Assembly: Inspection
- Release bearing is packed with grease. DO NOT wash in solvent. Replace release bearing if it shows signs of excessive play or drag.
- Replace pressure plate if excessively worn, cracked or overheated (indicated by Blue discoloration; Black random spotting is normal). Place a straightedge across pressure plate face. Check for warpage using a feeler gauge. Discard pressure plate if warpage exceeds .006" (.15 mm).
- Replace clutch disc if thickness is not .20-.29" (5.2-7.3 mm); facing is contaminated with oil or burned; or damper springs, hub or rivets are broken or loose.
- Check flywheel ring gear for broken teeth. Replace as required. Check flywheel face for chatter marks and evidence of overheating. Resurface or replace as necessary. Replace flywheel if thickness is less than 1.1" (28 mm).
- Using a dial indicator, measure flywheel runout with crankshaft pushed forward to take up thrust bearing clearance. Replace flywheel if runout exceeds .006" (.15 mm). Resurface flywheel if warpage exceeds .006" (.15 mm).
