Horn Inoperative

  1. Perform Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) system check. See procedures in RKE SYSTEM CHECK  under SYSTEM TESTS. Sound horn using left and right switches. If horn sounds using both left and right horn switches, go to step 9). If horn does not sound using both left and right horn switches, go to next step.
  2. If horn sounds with only left or right horn switch, repair inoperative horn switch. If horn does not sound with either left or right horn switch, roll window down. Lock all doors using RKE transmitter that has been programmed to mode with horn chirp enabled. If horn chirps when LOCK button on RKE is depressed (once or twice, depending on mode), go to next step. If horn does not chirp when LOCK button is depressed (once or twice, depending and mode), go to step 5).
  3. Measure voltage between ground and Black wire (circuit No. 28) at connector behind steering wheel shroud. If battery voltage is present, go to next step. If battery voltage is not present, repair open in Black wire between steering wheel and underhood junction block. Repeat RKE SYSTEM CHECK  .
  4. Inspect and repair steering wheel horn switch ground. If okay inspect and replace roll connector. Repeat RKE SYSTEM CHECK  .
  5. Remove and inspect HORN fuse. If fuse is okay, go to next step. If fuse is not okay, disconnect horn. Replace fuse. If fuse does not blow, replace horn. If fuse blows, repair short to ground in circuit in Orange wire between horn and underhood junction block.
  6. Disconnect horn. Replace fuse. Measure voltage from horn connector terminal "A" (Orange wire). If battery voltage is present, go to next step. If battery voltage is not present, repair open in Orange wire between horn and underhood junction block.
  7. Measure voltage between horn connector terminals "A" (Orange wire) and "C" (Black wire). If battery voltage is not present, replace open in Orange wire between horn and underhood junction block. If battery voltage is present, go to next step.
  8. Using DVOM, measure resistance from horn connector terminal "B" (Black wire) to ground with horn switch depressed. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace horn. If resistance is not less than 5 ohms, repair open in Black wire(s) between roll connector and underhood junction block or between horn and underhood junction block.
  9. If RKE module is not programmed to mode with horn chirp enabled, system is okay. If RKE module is programmed to mode with horn chirp enabled, go to next step.
  10. Measure voltage at RKE module connector terminal "C" (Black wire) and ground. If battery voltage is present, replace RKE module. If battery voltage is not present, repair open in Black wire between RKE module and underhood junction block. If okay, check underhood junction block. Repeat RKE SYSTEM CHECK  under SYSTEM TESTS.
