Fuel Gauge Circuit Resistance High Test

  1. If fuel gauge is inaccurate, go to step 3). Turn ignition on. With scan tester connected to DLC, observe status of fuel gauge feedback. If feedback status does not remain HIGH, go to step 4) If feedback status remains HIGH, go to next step.
  2. Disconnect Natural colored 18-way connector. If feedback status does not remain HIGH, see INSTRUMENT CLUSTER RESISTANCE CHECK  . If feedback status remains HIGH, check for circuit short to power in Purple/White wire between fuel gauge and PCM. Check PCM connector for clean, tight connection. If no faults are found, replace PCM.
  3. If fuel gauge is inaccurate, turn ignition on. With scan tester connected to DLC, command EMPTY, 1/4, 1/2, 3/4 and FULL. If fuel gauge does not operate as specified, see INSTRUMENT CLUSTER RESISTANCE CHECK  . If fuel gauge response is okay, check fuel tank sending unit resistance. See FUEL TANK SENDING UNIT RESISTANCE  . Replace fuel tank sending unit if resistance is not as specified.
  4. Turn ignition off. Disconnect PCM Light Blue 32-pin connector. Turn ignition on. Using DVOM, backprobe between ground and PCM connector terminal C16 (Purple/White wire). If ignition voltage is not present, go to next step. If ignition voltage is present, Check PCM connector for clean, tight connection. If no faults are found, replace PCM.
  5. Turn igntion off. reconnect PCM 32-pin connector. Disconnect Natural colored 18-way connector from instrument cluster. Connect 5-amp fused jumper wire between circuit No. 39 (Pink wire) and No. 455 (Purple/White wire). If fuel gauge status is not HIGH, see INSTRUMENT CLUSTER RESISTANCE CHECK  . If fuel gauge status is HIGH, check for circuit open or short to ground in Purple/White wire between fuel gauge and PCM. Check PCM connector for clean, tight connection. If no faults are found, replace PCM.
