Diagnostic Procedure
- Start and operate engine at idle. Raise and support front wheels. Place transaxle in Drive and allow wheels to rotate. Using scan tool, read vehicle speed. If scan tool displays MPH, problem is intermittent. If scan tool does not display MPH, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect PCM connector J3. Using external ohmmeter, measure resistance between terminals C15 and D15 on connector J3. If resistance is 800-1600 ohms, inspect sensor installation and terminals. Repair as needed. If sensor is okay, replace PCM. If resistance is not 800-1600 ohms, go to next step.
- Disconnect vehicle speed sensor connector. Sensor is mounted in differential housing. Using external ohmmeter, measure resistance between sensor terminals. If resistance is not 800-1600 ohms, replace turbine speed sensor. If resistance is 800-1600 ohms, go to next step.
- Inspect each circuit between sensor and PCM for open, short to ground, short to voltage or short to each other. Repair as needed.
