Diagnostic Procedure

  1. Using scan tool, monitor selector switch display while moving shift selector lever. If scan tool displays GRDED or INVALID for any selector position, go to next step. If scan does not display GRDED or INVALID for any selector position, problem is intermittent. Inspect selector switch for clean tight harness connector connections.
  2. If scan tool displays INVALID for any selector position, go to DTC P0706 - PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH INVALID DATA  test. If scan tool displays GRDED for any selector position, go to step 4). If scan tool displays GRDED for all selector positions, go to next step.
  3. Disconnect selector switch. If scan tool displays OPEN, replace switch. If scan tool does not display OPEN, inspect 4 circuits between selector switch and PCM for short to ground. Repair as needed. If all circuits are okay, replace PCM.
  4. Place shift selector in gear that displayed GRDED. Disconnect selector switch harness connector. If scan tool displays OPEN, replace switch. If scan tool displays INVALID, go to next step.
  5. Ensure ignition is on. Using DVOM, check voltage at terminals "A" thru "D" on selector switch harness connector. If voltage exists on each terminal, replace PCM. If voltage does not exist in either circuit, repair circuit as needed.
