5TH Gear & 5TH-Reverse Synchronizer Assembly: Removal
- Remove rear cover. See REAR COVER
under ON-VEHICLE SERVICE. Shift transaxle into 1st gear. Remove 5th-reverse fork retaining clip. Retaining clip can be either 2 retaining rings or one clip with bridge between 2 rings. All replacement clips are one-piece design.
- Shift 5th-reverse shift fork and lock transaxle into 5th gear. See Fig 1
. Remove input and output shaft nuts. Remove washer, reverse cone and reverse synchronizer ring. Remove 5th-reverse shift fork.
- Remove 5th-reverse synchronizer assembly, 5th synchronizer ring and 5th gear. Remove 5th driven gear with puller, if necessary. If puller is necessary, remove bearing retainer snap ring to allow shaft and gear assembly to raise up enough to permit puller jaws access under gear.
