Description & Operation

Vertical pinion gear teeth mesh with horizontal rack teeth. When steering wheel is turned, pinion gear shaft rotates on rack gear teeth moving rack left or right. Rack is connected to steering knuckles by rack inner tie rods and outer tie rod ends.
