Retrieving Codes & Information Flags

  1. Fault codes can be retrieved using scan tester or by flashing codes from SERVICE ENGINE SOON light. Fault codes related to EVO system are PCM engine Code 24 and PCM transaxle Code 41 (VSS circuit-no signal). Information flag related to EVO system is Flag No. 16 (EVO Actuator Circuit Fault). Information Flag No. 16 can only be retrieved by using scan tester, it cannot be flashed.
  2. To flash out codes, connect a jumper wire between terminals "A" and "B" of Assembly Line Data Link (ALDL) connector, located below instrument panel. See Figure. Turn ignition on but DO NOT start engine. SERVICE ENGINE SOON light should flash out Code 12 three times. If Code 12 is not flashed, self-diagnostic system is inoperative. Repair system before continuing procedure. See SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM  under TESTING.
  3. After Code 12 is flashed 3 times, if any fault codes are present, each code will be flashed 3 times in a row before going to the next code. Codes are flashed out in ascending order, meaning code of least numeric value will be flashed first): Code 11; if present, will be flashed last.
  4. When Code 12 starts to flash again, this indicates that all codes have been displayed. Turn ignition off and disconnect jumper wire to exit diagnostics.
