To remove

Before removing the control module to change it, perform PROCEDURES BEFORE DISMANTLING THE CONTROL MODULE .

  1. Open the radiator cap.
  2. Raise the car.
  3. Drain the coolant.

  4. Remove the screw from the coolant pipe attaching lug.

  5. Lower the car to the floor.
  6. Remove the battery and the battery tray.

  7. Remove the coolant pipe from the thermostat housing and hold the pipe out of the way with 83 95 212 STRAP .

  8. Put the gear selector in position P and undo the nut to the lever. Engage position N before removing the lever.

  9. Remove the lever. Pull back the gear cable and lift it up.
  10. Remove the bolts securing the control module.
  11. Pull out the lock pin, press down the lock and unplug the control module connector while lifting up the control module.

    IMPORTANT: Take care when releasing the locking mechanism on the connector so as not to damage the connector. Pull the halves straight apart to avoid bending the pins. For further information regarding connectors, refer to CONNECTORS, HANDLING AND INSPECTION .
  12. Lift off the control module from the shaft and the connector. Lift first straight up so the connector in the gearbox is not damaged. Then turn the control module so that it comes loose from the shaft.
