Changing Generator, 4-CYL Diesel: Removal

NOTE: If the car has a non-Saab radio, check that the customer has the radio code before commencing work.

Remove the battery cover and disconnect the negative battery terminal.
Raise the car.
Remove the lower engine cover.

Remove the drive belt cover.
IMPORTANT: Make a note of the belt's direction of rotation. The belt must be refitted for the same direction of rotation as previously.
Relieve the tension on the belt tensioner and unhook the multigroove V-belt.

Remove the generator connectors.

Remove the generator's lower retaining bolt.
Lower the car.
Remove the upper engine cover.

Remove the intake manifold with crankcase ventilation hose from the valve cover.
Undo the upper generator retaining bolt, leaving the bolt in the generator mounting. Lift up the bottom of the generator to remove it.
