Reading and mirror lighting: Notes

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2001 Saab 9-3. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

The reading and mirror lighting (vanity mirrors) is turned on and off with the switch at the respective lamp. These lamps are supplied with power via DICE and their functions are therefore controlled by DICE. The lighting functions independently of the switch (53) which controls the functionality of the interior lighting.

The lighting goes out while the engine is started (starter motor cranks). However, it does not stay off for more than 20 seconds.

To prevent unnecessary loading on the battery when the starter motor is activated, DICE switches off the reading and mirror lighting. When the ignition is moved from the ST position to ON, DICE switches on the lighting again. The off period is limited to 20 seconds for safety reasons, so that the lighting will function even in the event of a fault, i.e. if there is no +54 voltage.

The +30 voltage for the reading and mirror lighting is always supplied to DICE. The power is then supplied to the lamps (50F, 50C, 359RH and 359LH) from DICE pin 70. The lighting is turned on/off with the switch on the respective lamp.
