To Remove
WARNING:
Read the safety and handling instructions in WIS before commencing work.
WARNING:
Under no circumstances
should the steering column shaft be separated or taken apart.
WARNING:
Never
use the steering column adjustment to knock loose the steering wheel, as this will damage the impact joint.
IMPORTANT:
Ensure the wheels are pointing straight ahead before dismantling begins.
- Remove the steering wheel.
- Remove the airbag from the steering wheel, 2 plugs and screws.
- Lift out the airbag module and unplug the connector.IMPORTANT: As the steering wheel often comes away suddenly from the taper, there is a risk that the contact roller/wires will fasten on the steering wheel and be damaged.
- Loosen the steering wheel nut leaving it on its last threads and pull the steering wheel up to the nut. Then remove the nut and carefully lift off the steering wheel.
- Remove the top and bottom steering column covers, three screws.NOTE: Take care with the catches holding the covers together.
- Remove the two contact roller screws and unplug the connectors.
- Remove switches and the direction indicator and wiper stalk switches. Remove the securing cable from the bearing housing.
- Remove the lower dashboard panel.
- LHD: Remove the two knee member bolts and then the knee member.
- RHD: Cut off the cable tie and remove the knee shield.
- Remove the steering shaft universal joint and lift the joint off the pinion shaft.
- Remove the lower steering column assembly bolt above the air duct.
- Remove the two upper steering column assembly nuts under the instruments.
- Remove the steering column assembly.
