Fault Isolation Procedure

  1. Checking air leakage: The DTC can be generated if there is a major leak in the vacuum, e.g. if the brake vacuum hose has broken off completely. This kind of leak will make the engine run very poorly or not at all when at idling speed. If a leak has been found, rectify the fault and go to step  3. If no leak has been detected, go to next step.
  2. Changing components: Change the manifold absolute pressure sensor. When finished, go to next step.
  3. Checking the DTC:
    • Put the ignition in position OFF and wait for at least 5 seconds.
    • Start the engine and rev it up to 4000 RPM.
    • Release the accelerator pedal and wait for 1 minute.
    • Obtain readouts of DTCs.
If the DTC has recurred, the fault is in the ECM and it must be replaced. If no DTCs have recurred, the fault has been rectified. Clear trouble codes from all systems.
