Drive position

The TCM continuously sends information "SELECTOR LEVER POSITION", unit P, R, N, D, 3, 2, 1, on the bus. This information is used by Trionic and MIU.

If a selector lever position other than P or N is selected, the requested air mass/combustion will be increased to compensate for the imminent load increase. This is to compensate fully for the automatic transmission's increased torque requirement and avoid a reduction in idling speed before idle speed control compensation has had time to take effect.

The main instrument unit uses "SELECTOR LEVER POSITION" information to light up the relevant segment in the selector lever position indicator.
