In order to obtain smoother shifting and minimum wear in the gearbox, TCM sends continuous information over the bus to Trionic concerning "maximum engine torque", unit N.m.

As the gearbox is designed to withstand a maximum engine torque of 310 N.m, TCM normally sends bus information "Maximum engine torque 310 N.m" but for certain gear shifts, especially during rapid acceleration, TCM will request a lower "maximum engine torque" for the short time during which shifting occurs.

Trionic uses the information in its air mass control for engine torque limitation.
