Technical Description: Limp-home
A serious system error, such as a mechanical fault in the system's input or output functions, or an internal control module fault, will disconnect all the control module functions.
The control module sends bus message "CHECK GEARBOX ON", whereby the lamp goes on in the main instrument unit. A diagnostic trouble code is also stored.
In this situation the transmission will be controlled only by the hydraulic control system. This limits the transmission's functions and the car can only be driven to a suitable garage for repairs. That is why it is called limp-home.
