Draining the fuel tank
WARNING:
Draining the fuel tank involves partial dismantling of the car's fuel system. The following points must therefore be observed in connection with the work:
- Work only in a well-ventilated area! If approved equipment for the extraction of fuel vapors is available, be sure to use it.
- Wear suitable gloves! Prolonged contact with fuel can cause skin irritation or dermatitis.
- Keep a class BE fire extinguisher close at hand! Beware of sparks caused by short circuits and when connecting and disconnecting leads in electrical circuits.
- No smoking anywhere in the vicinity.
The fuel tank does not have a bottom plug. When work on the fuel system involves draining the fuel tank, this can be done through the fuel filler pipe using suitable tank draining equipment.
WARNING:
Cars equipped with ORVR (Onboard Refueling Vapor Recovery) cannot be drained through the fuel filler pipe using the tank draining equipment as essential non-return valves can be damaged.
IMPORTANT:
Bear cleanliness in mind when working on the fuel system. Prevent dirt from entering the tank and the fuel lines.
