Differential Bearing Preload
- Install outer race and original adjusting shim in transaxle case. Install differential in transaxle case. Install bearing outer race in converter housing. Apply sealer to transaxle case and install converter housing. Tighten bolts in crisscross pattern while turning differential assembly. Tighten bolts to 17-26 ft. lbs. (23-35 N.m).
- Using Differential Preload Adapter (KM-J-28644) and an INCH-lb. torque wrench, measure differential bearing preload. See Fig 1 . Preload must be within specifications. See DIFFERENTIAL PRELOAD SPECIFICATIONS table. If preload is not within specifications, remove differential from transaxle case and replace adjustment shim with appropriate shim.
- Adjustment shims are available in thicknesses of .039-.740" (1.00-1.90 mm) in .20" (.05 mm) increments. Preload will change approximately 2.6-3.5 INCH lbs. (.3-.4 N.m) with each shim thickness.DIFFERENTIAL PRELOAD SPECIFICATIONS
