DTC P0125: Delayed Closed Loop Operation

  1. Connect TECH 2 scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). Turn ignition on and read all stored DTCs. If no DTCs are present, go to next step. If DTC P0116, P0131, P0132, P0133, P0134, P1135 or P1136 is present, go to appropriate test procedure.
  2. Check coolant for proper level and concentration. Let engine cool down completely and measure external cylinder head temperature with a thermometer. Compare with temperature displayed on scan tool. Start engine and allow it to warm up to 140°F (60°C) while monitoring both temperature readings. If they remain within +/- 50°F (10°C) of each other, go to next step. If temperature variation is greater than specified, go to DTC P0117-P0118: ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE (ECT) SENSOR CIRCUIT .
  3. Check thermostat operation and ensure that cooling system is working properly. If necessary, replace thermostat and go to next step. If cooling system operation is normal, go to DTC P0131, P0132 & P0134: FRONT HEATED OXYGEN SENSOR (HO2S) CIRCUIT .
  4. Ensure that both intake air and coolant temperatures exceed 50°F (10°C). Start engine and allow it to idle for at least 4 minutes. Check scan tool display. If OK is displayed, use scan tool to clear all system DTCs. If NOT READY is displayed, back up to INITIATING DIAGNOSTICS on scan tool and retest. If DTC P0125 is displayed, substitute known good ECM and retest system. See ENGINE CONTROL MODULE (ECM) under COMPUTERIZED ENGINE CONTROLS in REMOVAL, OVERHAUL & INSTALLATION article.
