Removal & Installation - 9-3 Series

NOTE: Procedures for draining fuel tank on vehicles equipped with Onboard Refueling Vapor Recovery (ORVR) systems are not available from manufacturer. DO NOT attempt to drain fuel tank through fuel filler pipe, as damage to non-return valve will result.
  1. Drain fuel from tank. Place vehicle on lift, making sure that right rear lift arm is positioned as far to the right as possible to prevent obstructing tank during removal. Disconnect hose from fuel filler pipe to tank and hose from tank to EVAP canister. Plug fuel tank openings. Use SST 83 95 261 fuel line separation tool to disconnect quick-release coupling on purge line at the filler pipe.
  2. Remove fuel filter protective cover. Unbolt fuel filter clamp. Support fuel tank on a column lift. Remove tank strap retaining nuts and unhook straps. Move left handbrake cable to the side. Slowly lower tank down by dropping right side first until top of tank is visible.
  3. Disconnect fuel pump and tank pressure sensor connectors. Remove protective cap and disconnect pressure and return lines from fuel pump. Disconnect fuel lines from retainers on fuel tank. Lower fuel tank out of vehicle. To install, reverse removal procedure. Replace fuel filler pipe hose during reassembly.
