DTC P1611: Check Engine Request, Short Circuit To Ground

  1. Check for faulty electrical circuit between ECM harness connector terminal No. 61 (Blue/Green wire) and Transmission Control Module (TCM). See Figure for ECM terminal identification. See appropriate ELECTRONIC CONTROLS article in AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS for TCM terminal identification. If any problems are found, repair circuit and go to step  3 . If no problems are found, go to next step.
  2. With ignition turned off, unplug ECM harness connector. Connect SST 86 11 857 test light (or equivalent) between ECM harness connector terminals No. 1 (Pink/White wire) and 61 (Blue/Green wire). Turn ignition on and observe test light. Test light should come on for about one second, then go out. If TCM has detected a fault, test light will flash 2 times a second. If operation is not as specified, problem is TCM related. Go to next step.
  3. Clear all system DTCs. Drive vehicle at varying engine loads and RPM for 5 minutes. Recheck scan tool for any stored DTCs. If DTC P1611 is present, substitute known good ECM and retest system. See ENGINE CONTROL MODULE (ECM) under COMPUTERIZED ENGINE CONTROLS in REMOVAL, OVERHAUL & INSTALLATION article.
