Removal & Installation
- Empty fuel tank. Place car on a lift. Make sure that right-hand rear support is placed as far out as possible so as not to obstruct dismantling work. Raise car. Detach rubber hoses from tank and plug tank. Undo clamp securing fuel filter.
- Support tank by means of a pillar lift and undo nuts for metal straps holding tank in place. Unhook metal straps. Carefully lower the tank, right-hand side first, until the top becomes visible. Detach the fuel lines from the clips on the tank and car body so that the lines will not be bent or broken. Unplug two connectors from fuel pump. Disconnect pressure and return lines from fuel pump. Lower tank to a convenient working height.
- Remove screw ring from the top of fuel pump using special tool 83 94 462. Lift up pump until top of it is about 50 mm above fuel tank. Then turn pump clockwise about 80 degrees and carefully remove it.
- To install, fit a new O-ring in groove in tank. Carefully lower pump into correct position. Make sure that marks on tank and pump are in alignment. Fit the screw ring in place. Reverse removal procedure to complete installation.
