Motronic 4.1 System (2.3L)

  1. Turn ignition on. Disconnect ignition coil 2-pin connector. Connect test light between ignition coil 2-pin connector terminal No. 1 (Yellow/Gray wire) and ground. If test light comes on, go to next step. If test light does not come on, repair wiring. See appropriate wiring diagram in WIRING DIAGRAMS article.
  2. Disconnect spark plug wire from cylinder No. 1. Shift transmission into neutral. Install a test spark plug into wire. Run the starter motor. If spark is present, ignition system is okay. Refer to FUEL SYSTEM  in this article. If spark is not present, refer to the appropriate TESTS W/CODES - MOTRONIC 4.1 & 5.2 SYSTEM article.
