Diagnosis & Repair Procedure
- Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). Start engine. Select READ FUNCTIONS. Select THROTTLE POSITION. If scan tool readout is about 10%, go to next step. If scan tool readout is about 2% or about 99%, go to step 4).
- Unplug the 3-pin TP sensor connector. Measure specified values between indicated TP sensor connector terminals and battery. See TP SENSOR CIRCUIT TEST table. See Figure
. If all readings are not as specified, go step 4). If readings are as specified, go to next step.
TP SENSOR CIRCUIT TEST
| Terminals |
Approximate Value |
| 1 & Ground |
5 Volts |
| 2 & Battery (+) |
12 Volts |
- Turn ignition on, then off. Select READ FUNCTIONS and THROTTLE POSITION on scan tool. Reading should be about 99%. Connect jumper wire between connector terminals No. 2 and 3. Reading should now be about zero percent. If readings are to specification, replace TPS. If readings are not to specification, go to next step.
- Check wiring between TP sensor connector and ECM for continuity and short circuits. See appropriate WIRING DIAGRAMS
article. If wiring is good, go to next step. If any problems are found, repair circuit(s) as necessary.
- Clear DTC(s) and road test vehicle. If DTC is reset, retest system. If DTC is not reset, repair is complete.
