ISSUE & TIP
This procedure for front seal replacement applies to all Saab 900 models:
- Remove the tensioner for the A/C and A/C compressor.
- Loosen up the alternator belt.
- Remove water pump pulley.
- Remove three bolts for A/C compressor bracket.
- Once you remove the bracket, remove alternator tensioner arm. Be careful with the pickup sensor when you remove the bracket.
- Lock the flywheel and use a short 32mm socket with breaker bar.
- You now have enough space to remove the pulley. Remove all seven bolts for oil pump.
- Replace the "O" ring. Replace the seal on the bench and use white grease for the o-ring on the pump.
- Put the pump back with the seal already in place.
It takes about 2-3 hours compared to the ten hours if you remove the engine.
