Main Relay (9000 Series Turbo)

  1. Turn ignition off. Connectbreakout box to vehicle harness, leaving ECM disconnected. Turn ignition on. Connect jumper between breakout box pins No. 24 and 31.
  2. Check for battery voltage at breakout box pins No. 24 and 31. If battery voltage does not exist, go to next step. If battery voltage exists, relay is okay.
  3. Turn ignition off. Remove relay from socket. Relay is located behind glove box. Measure resistance between relay terminals No. 85 and 86. See Figure . Replace relay if resistance is not approximately 60 ohms.
  4. Inspect for continuity between relay terminals No. 30 and 87, and between terminals No. 30 and 87B. Replace relay if continuity exists.
  5. Apply battery voltage between terminals No. 85 and 86. Inspect for continuity between relay terminals No. 30 and 87, and between terminals No. 30 and 87B. Replace relay if continuity does not exist for each measurement.
  6. Inspect associated wiring for shorts or opens. See WIRING DIAGRAMS article in the ENGINE PERFORMANCE Section. If wiring is okay, temporarily substitute known good ECM. Retest system.
