SERVICE INFORMATION

For the 1991 model year, the 900 Convertible alarm system has been changed to the Saab-Alpine Anti-Theft System. Except for a few minor changes, this is the same reliable, versatile system that Saab currently offers as an accessory option.

The siren, LED, microphone/valet button assembly, hood switch and wiring harness will be installed from the factory. A box containing the alarm module, remote transmitter, alarm connector harness (car wiring to alarm module) and other mounting details will be placed in the trunk. As part of the PDI, the module should be mounted and the wiring connections made (see installation notes below).

It should be noted that the CV alarm system comes with one (1) remote transmitter. An extra frequency-matched ROM chip is included in case the customer desire the option of having two transmitters. Place the extra ROM chip in a suitable place for future use. The second transmitter housing and transmitter pouch (P/N 02 46 165 & 02 46 215) respectively, can be ordered from your servicing Distribution Center using normal parts ordering procedures. The alarm system is also designed for adding a starter interlock relay as an accessory option. The part number for this kit will be announced in the future.

MODULE INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

NOTE: As from 1991, the Convertible rear seat attachment is no longer bolted in place. To remove it, pull up firmly at the front edge to release the two friction catches.
  1. Remove the rear seat bottom.
  2. Connect the 8-pin plug of the alarm harness to the 8-pin car alarm plug located under the rear seat near the fuse/relay panel.
  3. Connect the violet colored wire (female bullet connector) from the alarm harness to the blue colored wire (male bullet connector) from the car harness. Connect the red/black colored wire (male bullet connector) from the alarm harness to violet colored wire (female bullet connector) from the car harness.
  4. Connect the two-pin connector with the red/white wire and the black wire (in plastic corrugated tubing, laying along side the center tunnel) to the two pin connector with the red/white wire and the black wire from the alarm harness.
  5. Remove the two bolts securing the relay/fuse panel under the rear seat in order to gain access to the dome light relay wiring. Connect the brown/black wire from alarm harness (tagged dome light) to the brown/black wire from dome light relay terminal with the wire splice connector provided. Re-install the relay/fuse panel.
  6. The module mounting bracket must be adjusted to account for the different mounting position in the convertible. Bend the mounting tab that attaches to the module so that it is perpendicular (90°) to the tab that mounts to the floor of the car.
  7. Remove access cover from module. Set switch 1 to active (on/up position) or passive (down position) arming per the customer's requirements. Set switch 2 to the same position as switch 1.
  8. Mount bracket to module using the two machine screws provided. See Fig 1 .
