Stall Test: Procedure

  1. Ensure engine is at normal operating temperature, tachometer installed and parking and service brakes applied. Perform transaxle stall test in "D", "1" and "R" positions at full throttle. Note maximum RPM obtained. Engine speed should be within limits. See STALL SPEEDS SPECIFICATIONS  table.
  2. If stall speed is about 300 RPM below specification, engine is not operating at full power. If stall speed is about 800 RPM below specification, torque converter assembly must be replaced. A substantially higher stall speed than specified indicates converter is not receiving required oil supply or a clutch is slipping.
