Coolant Temperature Sensor

  1. Disconnect ECU connector. Connect an ohmmeter between terminal No. 2 and No. 11 of ECU connector. Refer to COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR RESISTANCE table.
    COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR RESISTANCE

    Coolant Temperature Ohms
    32°F (0°C) 5800
    68°F (20°C) 2600
    176°F (80°C) 320
  2. If ohmmeter reading is not to specification, connect ohmmeter directly to sensor terminals. If correct readings are now obtained, check wiring between ECU connector terminal No. 2 and coolant sensor. Check wiring at ECU connector terminal No. 11 to ground. If correct readings are not obtained, replace coolant temperature sensor.
NOTE: During normal operation, relay grounds are provided by the ECU. Ground connections are simulated within the next 2 test procedures.
