Clutch Assembly: Removal
- Jack up and support front of vehicle. Disconnect battery leads and remove battery. Detach air intake duct from air cleaner wing. Remove washer fluid reservoir and disconnect positive lead from electrical terminal block. Remove fuel filter, terminal block and battery shelf.
- Pull electrical connector off air mass meter. Carefully remove air mass meter. Remove air cleaner intake duct. Disconnect lead from Hall transmitter at distributor. Remove cover and filter element from air cleaner. Remove air cleaner body.
- Remove turbo pressure pipe. Disconnect battery ground and back-up light switch connector from gearbox. Install clamp on hose in slave cylinder pressure line and pinch hose tightly together. Disconnect pressure line from slave cylinder.
- Remove oil supply pipe holding clip. Loosen left engine mounting. Support engine. Remove left front wheel and fender skirt. Separate control arm from ball joint.
- Disconnect speedometer cable and remove carefully so pinion does not fall down into gearbox. Separate 2 halves of selector-rod joint and remove clip from dust cover on intermediate drive shaft.
- Unbolt steady bar from inlet manifold. Unbolt starter motor from gearbox and push steady bar out of way. Let starter motor hang from electrical leads.
- Leave one bolt in position in top flange between engine and gearbox. Remove other bolts and install Locating Dowels (8392128).
- Loosen 2 subframe pivot mountings and remove 4 securing bolts. Unbolt front and rear mounting bracket. Remove 4 securing bolts at back of subframe.
- Remove bolts securing lower attachment point for wheel-arch bracket and let subframe hang from anti-roll bar. Loosen top nut for anti-roll bar. Unbolt anti-roll bar link from suspension arm and remove suspension arm.
- Loosen clip securing rubber gaiter on inboard universal joint. Withdraw drive shaft and install protective covers to open ends of gaiter and driver cup.
- Attach lifting sling to gearbox and remove remaining bolt. Withdraw gearbox past locating dowels and lower to ground. Install flywheel locking tool to top locating dowel. Lift off clutch assembly and remove clutch assembly. See Fig 1
