Clutch Assembly: Installation

  1. Before clutch installation, ensure input shaft seal, in primary gear case, is in good condition. Reassemble clutch assembly. Install components simultaneously. Loosely install pressure plate mount bolts.
  2. Ensure hardened side of release bearing faces clutch assembly. Coat input shaft splines with molybdenum grease. Tap shaft into position. Ensure shaft engages splines of disc and flywheel bearing. Coat slave cylinder bolts with Loctite. Install slave cylinder.
NOTE: DO NOT  depress clutch pedal farther than necessary. Seal lip may be pressed too far, causing hydraulic leak and seal damage.
  3. Tighten pressure plate bolts. On early design models, with pedal depressed, install sliding lock ring toward slave cylinder. On late design models, ensure plastic sleeve with circlip is installed with slave cylinder. Depress clutch pedal. Remove spacer. To complete installation, reverse removal procedure.
