Exhaust Emissions System - Catalytic Converters: Description

California and High Altitude models use a three component catalytic converter which is located between the exhaust manifold and muffler in the exhaust system. See Fig 1. This unit consists of a ceramic material insert of honeycomb design. The walls of the unit are coated with platinum and rodium. The catalytic converter provides a final cleaning of the exhaust gases to reduce emissions to an acceptable level.
